The Nutcracker

On Sunday afternoon, Reatha, Laura, Rachel, Lanicia, Tim, and I went to see the Nutcracker at Bridgewater College. This was Tim's first time to a ballet, which he said he did not hate. However, he said I am more than welcome to go with friends whenever I would like.

I have not seen The Nutcracker since my sister danced in it 15 years ago. I had more fun watching it this time around then I did when I was 8 :).

Lanicia's Christmas Play

On Sunday Tim and I went to see Lanicia's Christmas play at church. She had a role as a hippie which she did really well at. Her costume turned out pretty good, however, the best part was most defiantly the hair. Her hair was in an Afro and was really awesome!

Rachel said she took a picture of it so hopefully I will be able to get a copy of that from her soon. I will post it once I get a copy.

The play was good, it had some pretty funny parts in it. Lanicia did a great job remembering her lines. She also sang a lot of songs with dances which she did as great at as well.

Visit with Bradley

On Saturday Tim and I drove down to Martha Jefferson Hospital to visit our nephew, my sister and brother-in-law. We took Clare and Chris a cute outfit for Bradley, 3 month size so that the big boy can actually have time to wear it.

We got to visit with Clare, Chris and my dad who stopped in to bring some blankets. I got to hold Bradley for about 15 minutes which was a lot of fun. He is a very peaceful baby so far. I am hoping to make it down to see him at home sometime this week since Tim and I will be gone this weekend. Hopefully I will remember to take some pictures of him this time :).

Chris, Clare and Bradley got to go home on Sunday and everything went pretty smoothly.

Guess the Boy's Name

So we are having a boy! We have selected the name, however, we are keeping it a secret until the little guy makes his entrance into the world. We are, however, taking guesses on what everyone things the name is. So post a comment or send an email with your guesses.

Its a boy!!!

Well Tim and I had our ultrasound on Friday morning. We found out that we are having a boy. He is healthy and everything looks good. He is weighing in at 14 ounces at 20 weeks and 5 days (that was on Friday). Baby is in the 62% for growth, which means he will be between 7 1/2 and 8 lbs on his due date.

Here is a profile shot of Baby:

Aunt Lindsay and Uncle Tim

Last night my sister gave birth to a beautiful boy. His name is Bradford "Bradley" Patrick Winn. He born at 7:20 last night weighing 8 lbs 11 oz and is 22" long. Both the baby and my sister are doing good. We got to go down and see him last night. Here is a picture:

Here is a picture of my sister holding baby Bradley:

Congratulations Chris and Clare!!

Christmas Decorations Completed

Last night we finished up the Christmas decorations on the outside and the inside of the house. On the outside we have candles in all of the front windows, a wreath on the door, a red spot light on the front of the house and lighted garland running down the pole on the front porch.

Here is a picture of the Christmas tree in the family room. We put on some ornaments that we had and we inherited a few from my parents. We have our stockings hung on the fireplace. We have a few other decorations around the house as well. There are a few more pictures on the our web album as well. Click here if you want to see them.

Christmas decorating

This weekend Tim and I are going to decorate the house for Christmas. We are going to go cut down a Christmas tree. We are going to setup the tree and put up the other decorations that we have. This will be the first year that Tim and I have decorated for Christmas.

Last year we moved from Blacksburg to Charlottesville. The year before I was in an apartment and Tim moved from his house to his parents house. Therefore we never really decorated for Christmas.

We will make sure we take lots of pictures. I think I will get a head start on my Christmas cards as well (this is a first also).

Feeling the Baby

Last night I was laying down on my stomach reading a book. After about a minute or two I felt fluttering of butterflies in my abdomen (quickening). Apparently Baby does not like his/her space being invaded. This was an amazing feeling that I cannot really explain in words. However, it gives me nice reassurance that there really is a baby growing inside and that the baby is doing well.

Baby is about 6 1/2 inches from crown to rump (head to butt) and a little over 10.5 ounces.

Hopefully next week this time we will have up on the blog whether we are having a boy or a girl.

Baby presents

While at my parents house for Thanksgiving my Mom gave me present from my Great Aunt Nancy (she is my Dad's Aunt). Tim and I got to open the present which was a total surprise to us. Inside she gave us some baby undershirts, flannel receiving blankets, a medicine pacifier, and a little rattle toy. All of those things she purchased for us.

We then unwrapped all of the wonderful things that she made for the baby. She made a pair of socks, 2 pair of booties (very cute), a hat, a bonnet, a sweater and a blanket. All of these were in a mint green color since we do not know what sex the baby is yet. My sister has a matching set for her baby that is due any day now.

Here is a picture of all the wonderful things she made for us:

One pair of booties that she made for us is a 60 year old pattern. My Aunt Nancy loves to make these things for the local hospital near her in Levittown, PA.

There are some close up images in the photo album online (click here).

First Coat

Last night we bought the supplies to finish the drywall in the basement at Tim's parents house. Tim put on the first coat of mud last night. Hopefully we will be able to finish up the mud tonight. That would just leave 2 more days in the project. One for the primer and one for the paint.

Tim and I have decided on names for the baby. However, these will be kept a surprise until the baby is born in April. If anyone would like to make some guesses feel free to do so.

Thanksgiving Weekend

Tim and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Tim went to work on Wednesday and I hung out with Karla. We ran some errands and then baked some pies for Thanksgiving. That night Karla, Greg, Reatha, Rachel, Tim and I went to Lanicia's basketball game. She played really well, she has learned so much from last year. She stole the ball a couple of times and had some great passes to some of the other girls. After her game Karla, Greg, Tim and I went back to our house. We played this fun game called Boxers or Briefs. The game is a lot of fun and really funny.

Thursday morning Tim and I got up pretty early. I made some green bean casserole for Thanksgiving dinner at my parents house. We then left to go down and spend the morning and afternoon at the lake. There were a lot of people at my parents house for Thanksgiving. We had the Winn family (my brother-in-law's family) up for thanksgiving, my Mom's Aunt, then Clare, Chris, my parents, Tim and I. For a total of 10 people around the table. Everyone brought a different side dish for dinner. The meal was delicious. My parents cooked a huge 19 lbs. turkey and it turned out wonderful. Tim and I got some of my sisters home made cheesecake dessert to go.

We then drove up to Tim's parent's house for dessert, coffee, and games. We played a ton of games, including Sorry, Clue, Whoonu, spit, spoons, and twister (Tim and I missed out on this game since we were driving :-P). Spoons was a lot of fun especially since I won. I went into the final two with spoo and Karla only had s of the word spoon. I ended up beating her to getting 4 of the same cards 5 times in a row.

Friday Tim and I had to work however, we went into the office early. I got to the office around 5:00 am. I had some extra hours from earlier in the week and last week. So I worked until 12:30 and then left. We went out to Tim's parents house and hung out. I played some more board games with Lanicia and Tim put up their Christmas tree for them. We ate leftovers from Thanksgiving for lunch. We went back to our house around 5 or so to take care of the dogs. We hung out and watched a couple of movies that night.

Saturday we got up and took the dogs to the vet. Boomer weighed in at a whopping 61.5 lbs and Tipsy (she's gotten a little chunky) weighed in at 51 lbs. Tipsy got some shots and Boomer got his pawed checked out. We then went over to Tim's parents to help get Greg setup in the basement. We then decided to build a wall to separate his room from the laundry room. We got all the supplies for that and came back to the house. We got most of the wall framed up.

On Sunday, Karla, Greg, Tim and I went to Aletheia for the morning service. We then went over to Tim's parents house. Tim and Greg worked on the wall. Karla and I hung out with Lanicia. Karla left around 3:00 to head back to NC. Tim and Greg finished framing the wall. Tim ran the electrical as well. Then they hung the dry wall. Greg moved more of his stuff down into the basement.

We still have to finish the wall with a few coats of mud and some paint however, a huge hunk of the project is completed. Tim and I had a great time hanging out with everyone. We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Baby Update

I had a checkup appointment this morning to see how things were going. They did a check up and I am about 18 weeks along (only 22 more weeks to go :-P).

They then tried to listen for the heart beat with the Doppler. I was a little scared because they have not had any success with this so far. However, the midwife that I met with today found the heartbeat in about 10 seconds. I was really impressed! The heartbeat was about 150 beats per minute which is good. It was a great reassurance that there is a baby growing inside me and that the baby is doing okay.

The ultrasound that "could" (if the baby cooperates) determine the sex of the baby is scheduled for December 8th at 9:00 AM. I will let everyone know what we are having if we are able to find out.

On a side note: Tim and I are going to be an Uncle and an Aunt any day now. My sister is due in 7 days!! I cant wait to find out if I have a niece or a nephew.

Christmas Shopping and more

So Tim and I finished up all of our Christmas shopping for the season. Most of the presents are wrapped. I am pretty sure this is the earliest I have ever completed this.

Tim and I are excited for Christmas this year in the house. Last year in the apartment we did not put out any decorations because we were packing to move back up to the area. So this will be the first year that Tim and I get to cut down a tree, put up lights, hang stockings an all of those fun traditions.

Tomorrow I go in for a monthly check up for the baby. At that point I will schedule the big ultrasound. This is where they check for the 4 chambers of the heart, look at the size, organs, and hopefully the sex of the baby. I will update and let everyone know when that will be.

Listen to Advice

So I learned a lesson this weekend from Karla (this is not something new.. I usually do.. however this one was particularly funny).

Tim and I cleaned out what will become the nursery this weekend. We took the double bed that was in there over to Tim's parents and gave it to Greg to sleep on. So with that done we actually had some room to move around in that room. We decided to build the crib so that we could see what it looked like and start arranging the room.

Well on the way home from Tim's parents house I was on the phone with Karla. I told her the plan of building the crib and that my Dad and Tim are going to paint soon. Karla then proceeds to tell me to make sure the crib will fit out of the room. That way we dont have to work around it when we paint. Well the plan was to keep it in the room when we painted since we were already going to have to move a bunch of furniture out.

So to make a long story short I didn't really listen to what Karla said. Tim and I started building the crib. We figured we would do it in the family room since there was more room there. It took us a little while and we had the crib built. We were pretty excited that it was done. We then attempted to move the crib into the nursery. However, the crib does not fit through a door frame. Tim and I tried to engineer a way for it to fit. We turned it every direction possible and it would not fit. So we had to completely disassemble the crib, carry the pieces into the nursery and then rebuild the crib.

I talked to Karla later that night and told her what happened. She proceeded to laugh hysterically at me. She told me that I needed to blog about this (my guess is so she can put a funny comment up for everyone to read ;-) ).

So moral of the story is to listen to your elders!! (I know I will pay for that comment but it was well worth it).

Dinner Guests

Last night Tim and I had some friends from Aletheia over for dinner. Aaron and Ashley Proffitt came over and hung out. We had home made tacos and taco salad for dinner. We talked and caught up about the things that have been going on in our lives since we hung out last.

We had a lot of fun and hope to do something like that again soon. If you want to come over for dinner sometime just let us know :-D.

Redskins vs. Cowboys

After the Kelly's wedding on Saturday Tim and I drove up to NoVA and stayed with Steph. Steph rents this really nice condo that overlooks Reston Towne Center. We had fun on Saturday night and went to this little coffee shop (no coffee for me thought). We had s’mores and drinks. We had a lot of fun hanging out with Steph.

The next morning we got up and had breakfast with Steph and got ready for the skins game. We then drove up to Landover, MD for the game. We barely made it to the game in time for the kick off.

The game was really exciting. Tim and I stood up for the whole game (this is not typical for where our seats are). For those of you who did not watch the game or read about it later it was a very exciting game. The game was close the whole time. The ended up pulling it off with no time left on the clock. This game was one for the record books. If you want more details I will gladly relive them to you.

There are pictures from Steph's and from the skins game on the web album.

Kelly's Wedding

On Saturday Tim and I went to Kelly's wedding in Richmond. I got to see a lot of friends from college. We had a JMU computer science table at the reception. We got to catch up about events going on.

There are a few pictures from Kelly's wedding on our web album. Unfortunately the batteries in the camera were dying and therefore we were not able to take as many pictures as we planned.

Tim and I had fun hanging out with my friends and catching up. The wedding was very beautiful and enjoyable. The reception was a lot of fun. The food was great, especially the chocolate fondue with strawberries to dip!

Carbon Leaf

Last night Tim and I went to see Carbon Leaf play here in Harrisonburg. We had a lot of fun. We had time to catch up with a bunch of friends from college.

Sam came out to the house and picked me up. We then went and got some food and a good table for the show. We then meet up with Rachel, Mike, and Rachel's sister. It had been a while since I had seen all of them. We had a good time hanging out. Tim came to The Pub after his class ended. He also brought Greg along with him as well. The band was good as usual.

A lot of my pictures came out blurry last night. However, I will post the few that I took.

*Side note* I will be putting up some pictures tonight from a few other events. You can check them out on our web album.

2nd Ultrasound

Yesterday we had a second ultrasound. I am about 14 weeks into my pregnancy and the midwives were unable to find the heart rate of the baby. They also had this issue at 12 weeks. So they decided to do an ultrasound to make sure that everything was going okay. They were able to find a heart beat and the baby is doing fine. If you would like to see the ultra sound pictures click here. The pictures from this time are labeled Baby at 14 weeks.

Weekend Update

Tim and I had a lot of fun this weekend. On Saturday we did some things around the house. We were able to fix a stereo that was broken and now is ours since we fixed it. Then we went to a fall festival at my friend Gillian's church. Tim and I carved a pumpkin, this was the first pumpkin that Tim had carved. I will have to take a picture of it and put it up on the photo album.

We then went shopping and got a few decorations for the upcoming holidays. We then watched the movie called Net 2.0 which was better than I had anticipated.

Sunday we went to church and then out to lunch. After lunch we went to target and bought a mattress for our crib. Then we went out to Tim's parent's house and relaxed and hung out with the family. Tim helped his mom move some things in the basement. They are getting ready for the HVAC unit to be installed this week.

All and all we had a good weekend. I am hoping to put some pictures up to our web album when we have some more free time.

Landscaping Project mostly complete

Here is the almost completed landscaping project in our backyard. We planted these new shrubs today and put some mulch around the trees. We now need to add some more mulch to the flower bed and the project will be complete.

Eric's Wedding

On Saturday I went to part of my sister’s baby shower before I had to leave to go to Eric's wedding. The wedding was really beautiful. We drove over to the church with Dave and Lisa in their new car (very nice). The ceremony was really nice.

Then leaving the church we got to see Eric drive Rachel off in a really nice Dodge Viper. The reception was at the Stone Wall Jackson Hotel in Staunton. They had a really nice buffet. There were a lot of people at the reception (Tim guessed around 300). Overall, Tim and I had a really great time.

Trip to the Lake

Today, Tim and I made a trip over to Lake Monticello to see my Aunt and cousin from PA. We had a fun time hanging out with them, my parents, and Clare. My Dad and Kristine went kayaking around the lake.

We also stopped at the scenic overlooks on 64 on the way to the lake.

Here are a few pictures from Sunday's Adventure. Posted by Picasa

Soccer

Last night Tim and I went and watched Lanicia play soccer. Her team did really well. There are some kids on the team that have played before and are really good. Lanicia is learning a lot about the sport. She has improved a good bit since she started playing.

We will have to go to another game and get some pictures of her in action.

Crazy Weekend

So a spur of the moment decision on Friday after work had us driving up to Northern Virginia to see Abbott and West (Dave's band) play. We stayed the night and Dave and Lisa's townhouse and then got up and went to IHOP for breakfast with them.

We then spend the afternoon trying to find Dave a Prelude. Dave ended up driving back to Weyers Cave with us to test drive our Prelude for the week.

On Sunday my parents drove up for Lake Monticello to see some of the yard work we had done. We were able to get rid of all of the sod that we dug up. The project now seems like it is possible to complete. I won’t go into to many details but we need to treat the dirt, plant bushes and flowers, and then put down mulch and we will be done. Pictures will follow as soon as the project is complete.

Tim and I realized on Friday that we will not be able to do these spur of the moment random trips for very much longer. So over the next couple of months we are going to try and do some more spontaneous things. Let us know if you have some suggestions.

Baby's First Picture

Here is the first sonogram of Baby.
They changed the due date to April 23rd so the baby is roughly 9 weeks old (not 12 like they originally thought). The length of the baby is roughly 2 cm. We got to hear the heart beat at the doctor's office today and we got to see the baby moving its arms around.

You can see the rest of the sonogram pictures here.

Landscaping/demolition

So this weekend Tim and I decided to do some landscaping in the backyard. We were unable to finish the project we started. It now looks more like we did demolition then landscaping.

We did however make a lot of progress. Greg helped Tim on Saturday pull up some of the old landscaping fiber out of the ground and break apart some landscaping timbers.

Hopefully we can clean up the back yard some during the week and finish the project next weekend. Pictures to follow (once the project is completed).

Trip to Hendersonville

** Beware long post ahead*

This weekend we went down to Hendersonville North Carolina to visit some friends. We took Friday off of last week to extend the holiday weekend.

We left on Thursday night after Tim got out of class for our 6 hour drive. This always makes the trip interesting when you arrive at 3:45 in the morning. When you are sleep deprived and excited for the weekend there is always good conversations. Somewhere in SW VA we saw the biggest cross built. I believe the quote was "That is the only cross you can see from outer space!" We stopped for gas in some hick town in TN where Tim received free coffee. We talked to Trevor for about 50 miles out of the trip when he told us some pretty funny jokes to keep us awake.

We made it through TN into NC, where we were soon in Asheville. This is the tricky part of the trip where you have to exit about 4 times to stay on future interstate 26. We then got off at the Bat Cave exit in Hendersonville, where we had to navigate a windy wet road at 3:20 in the morning. We had some warnings about some spots on the road that were really flooded. We some how made it to Karla's house around 3:45. We carried our bags into the house and said hi. We stayed awake for about another hour or so catching up about the trip. We then finally went to bed.

Friday:
We got up and hung out at the house. We were able to catch up with Karla and eat breakfast around 10. We then went to downtown Hendersonville and walked up and down Main St for the apple festival. We got some cobbler and a present for my parents. We read lots of funny hand made signs.

Next we went to Trevor and Kendra's new house. We got the tour and looked at all the projects Trevor was working on while Kendra was out of town.

We then went had dinner at Papas and Beer. We ate the Mexican, which made Karla and I very sick to our stomachs. Next we got dessert at Bi-Lo and went back to Trevor's house.

As always we had good conversation until the wee hours of the morning. No details of this will be provided ;-).

Saturday:

We got up fairly early on Saturday. Karla and I dropped Tim of at Home Depot to meet Trevor. They then bought the supplies needed to fix Karla's ceiling in the basement.

Karla and I went up to a flee market called Smiley's. I bought a few things for the baby (clothes, books, and a few toys). We then tried to stop at a few yard sales however we only found a couple and none were that promising.

We went back to the house and saw how the guys were doing on the ceiling project. Tim came across several electrical issues which caused another trip back to Home Depot.

Karla and I looked in the I WANNA a paper dedicated to selling stuff like clothes, furniture, cars, trailers, etc. Karla is looking for a new couch for her house and I was looking for some more baby stuff. We found two places we wanted to go check out for baby stuff. We got directions and took off for Asheville area. We promptly got lost on the way to the first house. We got new directions and we were able to make it to the house. We realized that we were in BFE when none of the roads had street signs on them. The directions were confusing because we did not have any road names to turn onto. The lady that gave us directions was laughing at how lost we got. Luckily all the hard work paid off and I found a few things that I wanted to buy.

We then took off to find the next house. We tried to reverse our directions (with no road names or signs) back out to Leicester Highway. We saw some guys working on a tractor and one of them hit on Karla. However we missed a turn and ended up looking at Marshall County court house. We had to go into the police station to get directions back to Leicester Highway (at this point it was about 20 miles away). The police officer outside gave us directions and corrected Karla on the pronunciation of the road. When we asked for directions to the road he looked at Karla, looked at me, and looked at the bright yellow Nissan Exterra and kinda chuckled to himself.

When we finally made it back to civilization (Fletcher) we called the guys to see how the project was going. We asked Trevor if he knew where we were and he laughed and said no. He did say to watch out because guys in that county jump on girls with all of their teeth.

One of the things that we bought at the last house was a trash bag full of kid’s toys for various ages. Most of these toys made noise and you pushed buttons. We were on some very windy roads and the toys were making all sorts of funny noises. We were laughing because every time the toys were quite for a while we would hit a pot hole and they would then make tons of noise. We were ready to throw the bag of toys out the window.

We made our last stop in Canton (which we found okay regardless of the missing road sign for Hookers Gap). We did not purchase anything at this house. We drove home and bought some pizza and rented some movies.
We ate dinner and looked over all of the stuff that we bought. Karla took pictures of Tim and I as we built our pack and play that we purchased. We then turned off all of the toys so that they would not make a ton of noise on the way home.

Sunday:

We slept in a little that morning. We then had breakfast and did some stuff around the house. We watched the movie Benchwarmers, which was not nearly as funny as it could have been. Karla went to home depot and bought some ceiling fans for Tim to put up. Then Trevor came over to put another coat of mud on the ceiling. The guys finished up some projects and Karla and I made applesauce with some apples Karla bought at the orchard. She then made lasagna for lunch and apple crisp for dessert.

Monday:

We got up and said goodbye to Karla as she went to work. We then got our stuff together and packed the car. We waited to have lunch with Trevor; however, he was working and did not have time to meet. So we took off for home.

We made a quick stop in Blacksburg, VA to see Gil, Nell-Marie, and Daniel. We were able to stay for a little while and play with the baby before getting back on the road.

We have a few pictures from the trip that we will put on our web album.

Camping

So on Saturday night we took the two dogs camping at the quarry. Tim and I relaxed around the campfire while the dogs tried to herd up the wild goats. We came back on Sunday afternoon and the dogs slept the rest of the day. I think that is the first time in Boomer's life that he has been tired.

Here is a picture of the two dogs when we first got Boomer. I will add a more recent picture of the two of them later.
