Hunt Family Fiddlers

Yesterday Tim, Reatha, Rachel and I got to see the Hunt family fiddlers. We drove over near my parents house to watch the performance. The family has 7 kids all of which fiddle and Irish step dance. They also play other instruments. They had several different percussion instruments that they played, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, bass guitar, keyboard, accordion, mandolin, and a few others.

They had twin girls that were the oldest at 18 then 5 boys, the youngest being 9 years old. 3 of the sons were world ranked step dancers and the twin girls were world class fiddlers. They also had beautiful voices! They worked 3 summers at Bush Gardens Williamsburg doing their own performances.

Tim and I had a blast going to see them and have decided the next time they are close to us we will go to see them again. So if you hear of any performances by them it is well worth it to go see them.

Videos of Sammy

I took some cute videos the other day but did not have a chance to get them online until now. You can check out a video of Sammy waving Hi to Mommy here. And a video of Sammy playing with one of his favorite toys here. The merry-go-round has to keep moving for the song to keep playing and Sammy has figured this out.

It is amazing to watch them learn new things each and everyday. We are just so blessed to have Sammy in our lives.

Game Night

Last night Tim and I had a game night. We played Rummikub, Sequence, Othello, Mancalla, 5,000 (a dice game), and Hoopla. We had fun having a no electronic evening just the two of us. I was the Game night winner by winning 4 out of the 5 games (Hoopla you play as one team).

You can see one of my victories here:
I was the black player.... I won a chicken dinner cooked by my husband.. woohoo.. Okay.. I'm done patting myself on the back :-P

Snow Day

On Thursday we got about 5 inches of snow. Sammy had a lot of fun watching the snow falling in front of the sliding glass door.

Since the weather was bad Tim was able to come home early from work and play in the snow with Sammy and me. We made a little snowman and threw snowballs for Tipsy to catch and eat. We then came in and had some hot chocolate (Sammy had a taste of some once it was cold).

We then had visitors stop by and plow our driveway for us. My friend Casey and his wife Julie that live about a mile away stopped by and plowed a section of the driveway for us. He had joked that he was going to plow in my car so I wouldn't have to go to work.

You can check out more photos here.

Stomach Flu and Yeast Infection

Sammy and I got the stomach flu about a week ago. I am feeling much better after a rough 24 hours of not keeping anything down including water.

Sammy had a rough few days with vomiting but that is at least over. However, he still has the diarrhea (yes for over a week now). Because of the diarrhea the poor little guy got a pretty bad diaper rash. We tried just about everything to heal it up. We left him in the bathtub as long as possible. We let him air dry after diaper changes. We tried creams and ointments. Well it seemed to be getting worse instead of better on Friday and I looked up some images of a yeast infection and decided that is what he had. We made a trip to the pediatrician. He agreed thats what it was after also checking to make sure it wasn't a Staph infection. So we now have some cream and oral stuff for the little guy. Sammy air drying

The pediatrician also recommended some lactose free formula for about a week to allow his stomach to recover. The flu bug most likely killed the enzyme that digests the lactose so using this lactose free formula will allow this enzyme to return. Sammy weighed in at 18 lbs and 4 ounces.

Sammy is ready for Steak and Potatoes

Well, Sammy told us this morning he is ready for steak and potatoes! How, you might be wondering? He cut his first tooth. So through the stomach bug and cold he has had, he cut his first tooth. That makes sense why the poor little guy was a little (read very) fussy through this whole thing. Tim and I tried to see the tooth this morning, and although Sammy didn't want any part of that, we could feel the razor sharp little tooth in there!

Baby Proofing

Now that Sammy is moving around and pulling up on things our life has definitely changed even more. Two weekends ago Tim and I rearranged some things in the house to be less tempting for our electronically minded son. He LOVES buttons.. so he was starting push buttons on the DVD player and the cable box and turn on our touch lamp. We moved a few things around and we put latches on the cabinets that we did not want Sammy to get into.

However, I thought Sammy's room was completely baby proofed until the middle of the night a few nights ago. Tim and I woke up to the music of Mozart playing over our baby monitor. Sammy was able to pull up enough on his crib to push the button on his mobile and make it play music and have the animals spin around. So last night when I put him to bed I removed his mobile so he would go back to sleep in the middle of the night and not play with his mobile. I guess my little boy is growing up!

Here is a picture from the first 2 weeks of Sammy's life:

True Redskins Fan

Here is Sammy being a true fan ;-) Yes we put him in the outfit.. so I guess that makes us the true redskins fans. But he cheered on his team until bed time.. we all were a little disappointed with their performance (read extremely annoyed at how pathetic they played) but we will be ready next season to cheer them on again.

Thanks Josie, Janelle and Jayden for passing along the outfit :-)

Lazy Sunday Afternoon

Tim, Sammy and I are feeling a little under the weather so we decided to keep it low key today. We did a lot of cleaning around the house. We de-cluttered and have a big pile of trash and things to donate. I know I feel much better knowing that things are much more organized now.

We had to make a trip into Harrisonburg to buy formula for Sammy. Otherwise he would be kinda hungry in the morning when it all ran out today. When we got back the weather was so nice we decided to hang out in the backyard for the bit. Tipsy loves to play fetch for her frisbee.. no balls or anything like that just the frisbee. Sammy hung out on the blanket and watched her chase the frisbee around the yard. Then he decided he was up for a crawl in the yard. Here are some more pictures.

Christmas 2007

Tree #2 on Christmas Eve
We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a great start to 2008. We had an amazing time celebrating Christmas with family and friends. Sammy had a great 1st Christmas. He didn't really understand the whole unwrapping of the presents concept. However, he has loved everything he received. He got so many toys our storage locations don't know what to do. He had a very locomotive Christmas with trains, cars, trucks, steering wheels, a swing, and many other toys.

Christmas Eve we celebrated with my parents and then my sister Clare, brother-in-law Chris and nephew Bradley came to visit as well. We had dinner with my parents here as the house. Christmas morning we opened presents here had a nice big breakfast after Sammy went to sleep. Then we went to Tim's family to open presents and hang out.

Here are some more pictures from Christmas. Some how we didn't get any pictures over at Tim's family.. we will have to see if there are any pictures floating around.
