Off to Richmond

Well we are packed and ready to go. Once Sammy gets up from his nap we are headed to Richmond for our marriage retreat weekend.

We are excited to have the whole weekend to ourselves. This is the longest we will have left Sammy anywhere but we are both excited :-). We know he will have a blast playing with cousin Bradley, Aunt Clare and Uncle Chris.

On the mends

Man o' man we have been sick here. On Monday we all stayed home from work. We had 3 doctors appointments and we all got prescriptions. Since then we all have been feeling better and better. Who knew that administering pink eye eye drops was so painful. Poor Sammy starts crying as soon as he sees the little bottle of eye drops.

However, today his eyes are looking much better. He is also getting over this nasty cold we all had. Tim and I are suppose to be going to a marriage retreat weekend my sister and brother-in-law gave to us. Hopefully everyone is feeling up to it by Friday :-)

This picture is from a few weeks ago when my parents gave us Clare and I's childhood table and chairs. Sammy loves sitting at it and eating his snack and coloring.

Prayers for the Proffitts

Tim and I have had a very emotionally draining weekend. On Saturday we found out that our good friends Aaron and Ashlee Proffitt lost their 5 week old son to SIDS. Aaron is the worship leader at our church, Aletheia. Aaron's father is the pastor there as well.

Tomorrow is the memorial service for sweet little Aaden. Please keep them in your prayers. They have a long road ahead of them. I cannot even imagine the pain they are feeling right now. The only thing I can think to do to help is to keep lifting them up for healing and strength.

"The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised." Job 1:21 This is just what the Proffitt family is doing through thier tradgedy.

What Happens when Mommy Blogs!

Yesterday while I was writing the post I alluded to that I should go watch Sammy and see what he is up to. Mind you he was in the same basic space as me (a big open family room, kitchen dinning room). I got a little concerned when he was to quite. I walked into the kitchen to find this:

That was basically a full box of Baking Soda.. not so much anymore. So I cleaned up the floor and stripped the pjs off that made him look like pig pen when he walked around because he had a big cloud of dust following him!

Sammy has a cold but he was also showing some signs of a UTI yesterday. So I took him to the pediatrician and he agreed that it was signs of that. So I had the experience of pinning him down while he got a catheter to get a urine sample yesterday. I would not wish that experience on anyone. The results yesterday were clear. They were going to culture it overnight and call me with the results later today. Today he doesn't seem to be as cranky so I will take that as a good sign :-)

Twilight & Bloggy Award

My sister Clare gave me this cool bloggy award! I wanted to pass it along so here are the rules:

1. You have to pass it on to 5 other fabulous blogs in a post.
2. You have to list 5 of your fabulous addictions in the post.
3. You must copy and paste the rules and the instructions below in the post.

Here are 5 of my favorite addictions:

1. Reading.. I have shared this before.. however lately it has been really bad. I will read whatever free second I get!
2. Fruit cups.. not for me but for Sammy. They put a smile on his face and I dont have to cut all of the fruit up :-P
3. Blogging.. I have been on a blogging kick lately.. Im trying to be more consistent with my posts etc.
4. Minty things.. now that we are slowly moving past the pumpkin season.. I am in full swing on buying anything minty like, lattes, Hershey kisses, hot chocolate.. yum!!
5. Decorating.. In the past I have only really decorated for Christmas but now I really want to decorate for all of the seasons.

Here are the 5 fabulous bloggers I want to pass the award on to:
1. Amanda at lifelong playdate she is always sharing such cute stories about her little girl 'Beans' and the transition to motherhood.
2. Janelle at The Wilder Blessings, she just started blogging there and I love her stories about her 2 kids and remembering to be thankful for the little things.
3. The Queen B she is a great story teller. She cracks me up with her stories about her animals, the changing economy, and many others.
4. Jolanthe at No Ordinary Moment, she tells of the life as a mother of 4. Her stories about her son scare me for the future (wink) but crack me up at the same time.
5. Kristen at Team Breslin is one of my sister's friends that I recently meet in person. She is so sweet and fabulous I had to tag her for this award :-)

So now onto one of my addictions.. books!!! I totally just jumped on the Twilight bandwagon! I had always turned my nose up at the book because I was not into vampires or things like that. Then after reading lots of people's post about how they were pleasantly surprise about the book and that they liked it I though well maybe. The Queen B wrote a post about the book. I commented on the post and she wrote back explaining more about the book and what got her hooked. So I said I would give it a try. I have only been reading it off and on for 2 days and I am loving it. I am about halfway through and Im already trying to convince Tim to take me to the movie. However, Clare is about to start to read it so maybe and it can be a girls night to the movies :-). So if you like to read.. and want to try something different I say go for it!

Im going to get back to reading watching Sammy.

Lessons from Pooh

A few weeks ago Sammy, Tim and I went to visit my parents. They were babysitting my nephew while my sister and brother-in-law went to a college football game. When we got there Bradley was watching the old school Winnie the Pooh. I'm not talking about the new computer generated version but the one where each thing is hand drawn.

Sammy climbed up on the couch and they were watching as Pooh got stuck in Rabbit's hole. They used the word stuck a bunch of times to describe Pooh's situation. Bradley kept pretending he was stuck between the sofa and the coffee table. However, Sammy seemed to just be taking it all in.

About a week later Sammy started to use the word stuck to describe his toys when he couldn't get them to go where he wanted.

Well this weekend as we were driving back from Penn State Sammy started to get sick of being in his car seat. We had about an hour left in the trip when he started whining. He then started grabbing at his car seat straps and telling us that he was stuck. Tim and I laughed so hard. We then tried to explain how he had to be stuck in his car seat.

Since my father is such a neat-freak I had to share this picture of Sammy on the trip home. We let him eat a Twizzler. Apparently they make a big mess! All of the pink on his face is from the Twizzler.

April 2007 babies - Fall 2008

So I have been a member of a group of woman that were all do in April of 2007. So we all have kids that are roughly 18 months old. We got together for the first time this past spring. We threw them a big 1 year birthday party for the kiddos.

We all had so much fun that we decided to do it again. This time we meet at State College, PA where one of the families lived. We had fun letting the kids play together. We all brought snacks from the area we live in. One of the ladies brought us some Canadian potato chips!

Maddie color before everyone got there

A quick post

So I wanted to write a quick post about some things I learned this weekend. There was 6 toddlers, 3 older kids, and 8 adults in a 1,000 sq/foot house. It was fun, it was loud it was insane.

1. Bring ear plugs
2. Bring your toddlers favorite foods with you so they eat something other than crackers
3. Try and stay on your toddlers schedule
4. Take lots of pictures
5. Have few a drinks ;-)

Pictures will follow tomorrow!

Well, I just got the last bag packed in the car for our trip to Penn State this weekend. I am getting together with a bunch of my girlfriends and their families. We should be getting there around 9 tonight and leaving at some point on Sunday. The last time we all got together was in the Spring when all of the babies turned 1.

Here is a cake picture:
I am sure we will have a blast.. :-) Can't wait to see you girls!

Picture Frame

So yesterday evening I went to my sister's for stamp club. Yes, we are like crafty nerds.. however, I don't think she would appreciate me calling her a nerd. I however, have chosen to embrace the title. Okay.. so anyway back to what I was posting about. We made these awesome custom picture frames. I would show you a picture.. but I'm giving mine away as a Christmas present so I don't want to ruin the surprise for the recipient if they even read the blog. I am not sure :-)

You can check out an example of some that Clare did here(at the bottom) and here. But I will give you the basic run down on how to do it. Go to the store and pick out a picture frame you like. We did some 8 x 10s that had a wide mat around them and a space for a 5 x 7 picture. You then pick out some awesome scrapbooking paper (12 x 12). You use some scrap tape so it will last forever and glue the whole piece of paper to the frame. Then you use an exacto knife and cut around the mat. You can then use whatever you like ot spruce up the paper. Either some stamps or flowers or letters and some ribbon. You pop a picture in and you have this awesome picture frame to give away as a present. My sister is a creative genius!

Halloween Activities

On Friday Sammy got dressed up in his costume and I took him to visit my office and Tim's office. We then came home to give out candy. Sammy got to trick or treat to two houses. We figured since he wasn't old enough to say trick or treat and thank-you we wouldn't take him to a bunch of houses. He did however get to visit the neighbors on either side of us. He liked to pick the suckers out of the candy baskets and put them into his pumpkin.

Sammy kept signing more so that he could have more candy. Here are a few pictures we wanted to share:

Running around in the drive way

Eating a sucker.. he was very sticky from this point on :-P

A glimpse into his teenage years.. scary!

On Saturday we went and visited my grandma (Nana to Sammy). Then we got to see Giggy and Pop Pop (my parents) and cousin Bradley. Giggy gave Sammy a little Halloween treat box. He loves the pumpkin mini muffins she made for him.
