Welcome to the New Site

Hey guys! I am so super excited about the new blog. I felt the need to remove my last name from my blog so that required a complete revamp! I am now the proud owner of www.bytesofmemory.com.

I still have some tweaking I want to do to the sidebar and my profile. But I will be here for good now :-).

So, now for a little blog warming gift... I love a good puzzle and I know a lot of my friends do as well. There is a secret message on this blog. Find the message and be the first person to submit the message in a comment. If you are the first person with the correct answer you will win a $10 amazon e-gift card. Make sure you give me your email address if it is not setup in your profile.

Happy Hunting :-)

Wordless Wednesday: Finger Paints

Whats on my Nightstand- February

Over at 5 minutes for books they are doing the Whats in your Nightstand carnival.

Last month I had the following on my nightstand:
1. The Tales of Beedle and Bard - not what I thought it was going to be. But I enjoyed getting just a little taste of some new Harry Potter material. It was a quick read I think I finished it in about an hour.
2. New Moon - I loved this book!!! I can't wait to get my hands on the next one. Again this turned out to be a quick read even though I tried to pace myself.
3. The Lies Women Believe - I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. There were definitely things I learned from it. However, the author tends to be a little extreme in her views and they didn't always line up with mine.

I also finished Twelve Sharp and enjoyed that. It had a new twist to the Stephanie Plum series.

So for the next month here is the list that I plan to read:
1. Love Dare (I am a few days into this book, its a 40 day challenge)
2. The Shack (I am about half the way through this already)
3. Fireproof
4. Eclipse (if I can get my hands on a copy)

Shy Flirt

I think Sammy like to pretend he is shy. When we go to target he waves and says hi to anyone that is not paying the slightest bit of attention to him. If someone stops to talk to him 9 out of 10 times he hides or looks away.

Last week I meet Tim at his office to eat lunch. We were out on the old porch that they turned into a conference room. There was a few people in the kitchen making and eating their lunches. Sammy could see them through the window. He would smile, wave, blow kisses, and giggle. As soon as any of them came out to say, "Hi" he would sit back down and look away and be really quite.

I think he is a shy flirt and loves little old ladies :-P. However, if he does warm up to you look out.. he loves to be the center of attention.

All Things Random

So much for keeping the blog up to date this week.. It has been a busy week but not one thing in particular that caused it to be that way. Okay getting side tracked.. on to the point of the post..

1. Sammy was in time out yesterday in our big leather recliner. I was cleaning up the mess he had made and it took everything in me not to crack up. Why you ask? Because Sammy learned to smush his face up against the recliner and blow to make farting noses.. He isn't even 2 yet.. and he knows that this is a hilarious boy thing to do.

2. Tim and I switch babysitting with another couple every first and third Friday of the month. Tonight is Tim and I's night to watch their kids. Such a great treat to be able to go out on a date and only have to pay for your date not a sitter as well.

3. At Target today I saw some teenagers with one of those mechanical babies. You know the ones that cry and need their diaper changed and need to be fed. They were in the electronic section changing a diaper in the bottom of the cart.. oo I wish babies were really that easy :-P

4. I had been getting behind on my meal planning lately and it was frustrating me. I would then start the week on the wrong foot. I was able to get the meals planned out and the list made today. Tim and Sammy went shopping while I did some baby shopping with a pregnant friend of mine (its her first). I feel so much more prepared now to actually get the meals cooked.

5. Our dog needs a bath.. anyone want to come over and do that?

6. I got a bloggy award from my friend Terra over at The Emmerson Family. She just started up this really cool book review blog called Tales from the Nightstand (I totally love the name). She is kicking the blog off with a a giveaway.

2 Cent Entertainment

The other day I decided to blow up a balloon for Sammy to play with. I though it would entertain him for a few minutes and then pop. Well the balloon has lasted since the Super Bowl and is still going strong!

Here is some picture of Sammy and his balloon. They are blurry because he was moving fast and I had to change the camera settings just to get him in the frame :-P

Posing for the camera

Tossing it in the air :-)

See the speed

That is pure delight on his face :-)

What I Learned this Week

1. I learned that I am not the only one that doesn't love Valentines day
2. I learned that cleaning toddler pukes out of the bumper pad is gross
3. Because of what I learned from #2 I learned that the bumper pad is really not needed anymore :-P
4. We bought a really cheap bookshelf to put inside of a really old wardrobe that my grandmother gave us. Tim went to build the bookshelf and we realized why it was so cheap. There was not a single piece of metal that held the bookshelf together. The only metal pieces where the parts that held the adjustable shelf in place. No wonder why Target had it on sale for $16

Hop over to Musings of a Housewife to check out the carnival and say hi :-)

Boys + Trucks, Rocks, and Dirt

Sammy now has a new obsession. He wants / must be outside at all waking moments! He points at the sliding glass door and says please. He sometimes will say side (as in outside). He has figured out how to unlock the sliding glass door. He knows how to open the door, however he is not quite strong enough to do it (yet). Tim and I had better figure out some way to keep the kid inside!

On Saturday, Tim and I were working in the garage. When Sammy woke up from his nap, we brought him outside with us. Sammy then proceeded to play with the gravel in the driveway, using Tim's solid metal dump truck from when he was a boy. He put the rocks and gravel dust in the dump truck and dumped it over and over and over again.

Tim and I were laughing, because he has never played with any toy for that long at one time. Sammy sat in the driveway, playing with the dump truck for around 15 minutes! This is unheard of from the boy that never sits still.

So, as hard as it is sometimes to tell him no to playing outside, it is good to know that there is an end in sight for this winter. When it does end, my son will not need as much of my constant attention to provide activities. I guess I should start buying sun screen now ;-).

Sammy-ese

Sammy has been saying some new words and putting words together. I just wanted to post his currently list and the equivilient english word:

cooo-ka - cookie
craaka - cracker
ish - fish
ornin - morning
c go - see it go (or he will group this with the word fish or dog or car)
go - car
nack - snack
uhhh ooohhh - the music stopped he does this between each song on a CD :-P
there you go - there you go
where go - where did it go
here is - here it is (after "finding" something)
oooohhhh (while pointing) - look

Am I the only one?

Sometimes I feel like I am the only one that does not care for Hallmark day. I told Tim when we first started dating that if he bought me something for Valentine's day, I would be upset. I don't want someone to tell me that they love me or thought of me simply because their calendar told them to do it.

Don't get me wrong, I love chocolate and I love flowers, but I would rather have them on any of the other 364 days of the year. I like sporadic gifts from Tim's heart, given when he feels like he wants to get me something.

Sometimes this is when I have had a tough week, sometimes its when we have had good news and sometimes its just because he felt like giving me something.

Is there anyone else out there that doesn't do Valentines day?

The Balance

I haven't been blogging much this week. I have been struggling to find a new balance at home. I am working more hours from home due to my husband's company reducing his hours. Its not to many just a few each day. However, I have not been able to find the balance of getting those hours in and not neglecting my family and other chores around the house.

I am also trying to find the balance with interactive play with Sammy and him playing on his own and developing that skill. I feel like I haven't been giving him enough time. I mean I am here I read books over and over all day but I feel like I am not doing anything with him. I need to come up with some fun activities for him to do. Some games we can play.

I have come up with a very do-able around the house schedule for working and chores and meals and all of that fun stuff.. so now I need some activities.. send them my way :-)

Super Bowl Commericals

I am a pretty big football fan. However, I don't tend to watch if my Skins aren't playing in the game except for the super bowl. This is for two reasons:

1. It's the big game and the snacks are yummy
2. I love the commercials

Okay so that might have been three reasons.. whatever.

However, a lot of times the commercials are better than the game. Unfortunately, in the last few years the commercials have become very inappropriate. Last night Tim's 10 year old sister was over watching the game. There were some that I felt like violated her innocence. Call me nieve but I think women's clothing getting ripped of is a little much at 8 PM.

There were however some really great commercials. Since I was up late watching the game and then I got up early to get some extra time in at work and because I have no real content for the blog today.. I give you Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head:
