A few nights ago we got down to business and carved our pumpkins. Sammy thought this was really fun.

He helped scoop with the spoon and wouldn't use his hand at first.

Then he got down to business and started getting his hands dirty:

Sammy picked out the design he wanted on his pumpkin:
Tim and I still have to carve the faces into our pumpkins hopefully we will get a chance to do that soon :-)

Sammy also got to make a paper Jack-o-Lantern. I cut out a bunch of shapes and put some glue on the pumpkin and let him pick out the eyes, nose, and mouth:

Some C Crafts

So recently Sammy and I have been creating some letter C crafts. We had a lot of fun creating them. Some required more help from me than others :-)

Our C corn:

I cut everything out before hand. Then let Sammy put glue on the pieces then helped him with the order to glue them on. I drew the pieces of corn on for him:-)

We also made paper bag crow. I traced Sammy's hand and cut it out for him. I had the other black pieces cut out for him to glue on. He had a lot of fun making this but even more fun playing with his bird.

I got the idea for this craft from Jolanthe's Homeschool Creations. She used some foam sheets to create hers. I didn't have any of those on hand so we just used some red construction paper.

Next was our fuzzy C caterpillar. I had planned on just using a few colors in the small pom poms. Sammy had another plan, but it turned out cute:

Sammy also asked me to draw feet on the caterpillar.

Since its close to Halloween we created a black cat. This one was pretty simple. I cut out a C and cut some legs into the ends of the C. Next I cut a tail for that cat. Sammy glued the peices onto the orange paper. He glued the cat's eye on and put some Halloween stickers around that cat. I wrote meow on there just in case it was hard to tell it was a cat.

We also created this C car. This one I cut the C out and drew the lines on it to make it look like a C. Sammy glued the wheels on and the C onto big paper. He drove this thing around the house for a while afterwords.

Sammy really liked the C corn so I decided to make an ear of corn. I cut out the pieces and Sammy glued them together. I drew the kernels on for him.

Stop Yelling

"Stop yelling!", said at a volume just below yelling, several times a day. Before I had a kid, I use to think that some parents just needed to be more strict and tell their kids to use their inside voice. I use to think "man those kids are running the show."

Enter Sammy... He is a good boy, but man, there are a few things he does that drive me up the wall. He likes to call my name, but if I don't stop what I'm doing, look at him and say, "yes, Sammy" he just keeps repeating my name.

Then it hit me how much I do that with God. "God, its me, Lindsay! God! Are you there?" But I am talking so much I don't always stop to listen for a response. Or maybe I am asking for something and its not in his plan. Kind of like when Sammy asks for a cookie at 8 am. I ignore such requests sometimes because I know the plan for the day. I know that he will get a cookie later. Yet he is insistent! I stop and explain that we don't eat cookies right after breakfast.

I hope that by realizing this, I will stop and listen more, to God, to my friends, and to my family. What things have you learned only since becoming a parent?

What's On Your Nightstand - October

I haven't been reading much lately. Well up until the other day when I set down The Time Traveler's Wife and read one of my favorite authors, Janet Evanovich. I finished the book in about 2 days :-P I decided I need to have a plan for this month otherwise I wont finish my fall challenge. So here is my plan off attack for October:

1. Big Fish - I started this last night and I am liking it so far
2. The Lost Symbol - can't wait to read this one
3. Mere Christianity - this is for a book club and I am scared I wont understand whats going on but I am excited to see if I like C.S. Lewis' nonfiction!

For more Whats on your Nightstand check out 5 minutes for books. What have you guys been reading lately?

2. Carve some pumpkins

4. Try on his costume again with some layers underneath in case its going to be cold
5. Practice putting candy in his pumpkin candy holder and saying Thank you :-)

One reason the house is messy

This table is suppose to hold duplos.. Sammy however thinks its his tunnel:
He likes to lay in here and pretend to sleep as well :-P
So this was one of the items I got rid of. It was hard to get the duplos to attach to the table (we got it at a yard sale) and Sammy usually just dumped them out.. but man he had fun with it while it was here. He was pretty sad when I emptied it out the other day.. but I think he has forgotten about it now ;-).

I am hoping to do some more weeding out this weekend :-)

Redskins Game

Tim and I had the pleasure of going to a skins game a few weeks ago. Thanks Mom and Dad for the tickets! We made a whole day out of it and really had an amazing time. We were lucky enough to go to a game they one.. yes I know it truly was a miracle ;-)!

Here are a few shots from the game:

I just liked this shot :-)

I just loved this girls outfit! hehe

I wish my football team was doing better.. but I will be a fan through thick and thin :-)

After the game Tim and I got to stop for dinner on the way home and then go get coffee. We had the pleasure letting Sammy stay at Tim's parents for the night. We are thankful for the amazing people in our lives!

Christmas - Preparing

So I have been thinking about Christmas a lot lately. I have started shopping.. yes I am one of those people that gets their shopping done ahead of time. I love giving gifts and love finding just the right thing for each person!

This year I have started "preparing" early. How you ask? I am getting rid of stuff! I want to get rid of all of the unnecessary items in our house to make space for the new things. I have been using the site to work on a cleaning schedule for the house. A few days ago they sent out a very neat idea. To get everything in your house prepared by December 1st. That way you can sit back and enjoy the wonderful holiday season. You will have time to prepare cookies with your kids, make popcorn strings, go caroling or whatever your family traditions are. This is my goal this year. To have my house nice and tidy for the holidays, my meals planned out, my gifts wrapped, etc.

Each year I think about the traditions we had at my house. I loved the holidays growing up (I still do). I love a lot of the things we did each year. I am still trying to figure out our family traditions but I love making the holidays special. What traditions did you have at your house growing up or now? Have you started thinking about the holidays?

hello.. anyone there..

I have been a lazy blogger. I have so many thoughts and posts swirling around in my head. However, every time I sit down to write something.. I can't find my motivation. So if you see my motivation laying around.. send it on over ;-).

I think my main issue is that I'm now going to the gym.. stop the laughing! But in order to go to the gym I have to go before Tim goes to work.. its early and its when I use to blog.. So now I am struggling to find the time to write down my thoughts, and our family activities. But I am going to work on it.

Friend Makin Monday- Halloween

This week Amber has us talking about what everyone is wearing for Halloween! Tim and I don't dress up so it will be just Sammy! It was a tough choice this year! I was debating between:

Larry the Cumber
Winnie the Pooh

Then we were walking around in Costco and we saw this cute elephant costume. Sammy loves to make the elephant noise (well most animal noises). But he gets super excited about the elephant. Unfortunately they did not have one in his size. So I started looking online for one. They were ranging around $30+ and to be honest I didn't want to spend that. My sister was going to lend us my nephews Winne the Pooh costume so I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money since I had a free one to borrow (Thanks Clare)! I hopped on Craigslist and you wouldn't believe what I found! The same elephant costume from Costco in his size! So for $5 this is what his costume will look like:

This is not the actual costume but its pretty close! It has a built in belly that makes my string bean look more like an elephant :-).

Grief over Silicone

Yesterday Sammy had some obedience issues with his paci. He went into his room and got it. Not a super huge deal except he wouldn't put it back. He threw a huge fit, sat in time out, you name it he did it. But he still wouldn't put it away.

So I took it out and cut about a 1/4 an inch off the end of it. He was mad then he got over it and threw it away. He found another paci in his room on the floor and threw it away (a working paci).

So we decided he was ready to give up his habit and took the paci away cold turkey last night. He grieved like we stole his best friend from him. He cried for 20 minutes or so and then moved onto the next stage of paci grief. He got angry! He yelled for us and his paci. Then eventually he just went to sleep!

This morning he is already asking for his paci. I am in the office today so hopefully he gets out of his funk for Tim!

Our Trip - Part 2 (of 2)

Our next stop was to visit our friend Karla in Greenville, SC. She made us an awesome dinner and let us hang out at her house for awhile.

Karla is one of Tim and I's best friends. We lived her for a few months during our first year of marriage when we were moving back to the college town. She is a really great amateur photographer and took a few pictures of Sammy.

Here he is making a mess eating dessert:

Playing peek-a-boo with Aunt Karla covered in her awesome eclair dessert:

When the sugar hit Sammy he got really hyper and had fun dancing around. He kept turning the volume up on the stereo :-P

He loves to play this game.. he climbs up your legs.. its a great workout for your legs!

Getting some love from Daddy:

We then left to go to Atlanta. Sammy loves to pretend to go to sleep. So after we had been in the car for 20 minutes or so and Sammy was not asleep I got him to pretend to be asleep with me. He never woke up ;-) love this trick.

Now for the sad part of our trip. We got to Atlanta and put Sammy down for bed. We hung out and talked until 1:30 or so and then went to bed. Around 4 am Sammy woke us up wheezing. It was pretty scary for him to wake up so suddenly like that wheezing.

We got the shower going in the bathroom and got a steam bath going. Then we held Sammy over the A/C vent to try and give his body a contrast. We did this for him when he had RSV last winter. Once we got him to stop wheezing he never fell back asleep.

Tim and I decided it would be best to head back home so if this happened again we would be at home. We are super sad that our visit with Tim's sister was only a couple of hours but we are super glad Sammy is feeling better!

He has a nasty cold that has turned into a double ear infection. Yes I am completely serious! Sammy has had such a big growth spurt that his tubes are at the top of his ear drum while the infection is in the bottom. We have ear drops that will hopefully clear them up. If not we have an oral antibiotic to help clear this up.

Our Trip

This past Friday we headed to Atlanta. It was about an 8 hour drive. We planned a few stops for the way down to break up the trip.

I was excited to see my good friend Steph at her new apartment and hang out and have lunch. Steph was one of the bridesmaids in Tim and I's wedding. It had been since Sammy turned 1 that we had seen her so I was super excited to hang out there for a while.

After lunch we went down to this huge park by her apartment. It was a super fun playground and helped wear Sammy out!

We didn't get any nice pictures together... We did take this fun one though:

Sammy went down this HUGE slide:

The view from the top and for the record Steph is pretty tall! I was so surprised Sammy had enough courage to go down it. The playground was made for ages 5-12 but he did pretty much everything on it!

I wish he hadn't pulled his hat down so low but this is a real Sammy smile not a cheesy one for the camera! Love catching these!

Sammy is such a dare devil we should start putting money in savings for his health insurance ;-)

It was hot outside, in the 90s. Sammy played hard. When it was time to drive to the next stop we found him like this about 3 minutes into the trip:

Our next two stops I will get up tomorrow.. Lets just say it was a long day/night/day for us!
