Tot School - Slacker style :-P

Sammy is 34 months

Letter J Crafts:

We read the story about Jack and the bean stalk. Sammy thought the giant was funny! We then made a J beanstalk and colored a picture of Jack (that I found somewhere online). I cut him out and we glued him on the beanstalk:

For our other J craft we made a jungle J. We colored a picture of George to put on the bottom of the J. Sammy and I cut him out. He did the cutting but I helped hold the paper and turn it for him.

Life Skills:

Sammy practiced spreading jelly on a piece of bread:

Sammy was really into pretend play this week. He put his stuffed animals in his booster seat and feed them pretend food with his fork. He also put a burger King crown on him that one of his friends gave him :-)

Five Question Friday

So I didn't have anything in particular to write about and I actually remembered about this little bloggy carnival. I thought I would jump in on the fun :-)

1. Do you sing karaoke? If so, what is your go to song?
No! I am a terrible singer so you couldn't pay me to get on a stage and sing. The one and only time I have sang karaoke I was about 8. I was at my Dad's company picnic and I sang Under the Boardwalk with a bunch of his sales reps. They would point to me and I would sing, "Boardwalk."

2. What is your favorite coffee drink? hmm its a pretty close tie between pumpkin spice latte and peppermint mocha latte :-)

3. If you could choose your own name, what would it be?
I always wanted a cool name like Raleigh growing up.. but now I really like my name :-)

4. Were you ever bullied?
Not that I can remember.. if so it didn't seem to affect me that much since I can't remember :-P

5. How often do you eat fast food?
hmm maybe once a month! I am not a huge fan of most fast food (usually upsets my stomach) so I don't usually eat it :-)

Kid Activity List

Today I had my MOMS meeting (its a group in my area sorta like MOPS) today. One of the other committee members was sharing about preschools and activities in the area. We also decided to compile a list indoor and outdoor activities to do with different aged kids. So I created a small list of things to do with babies, toddlers, preschoolers and school aged children. I thought I would post the list of ideas I came up with.

Then I thought it would be really fun if anyone wanted to send me ideas I can add them to the list and create a nice little resource page for those days when your fresh out of ideas and the kids are antsy for you to entertain them. Some of these I came up with on my own or from friends, others I found in The Toddler Busy Book.

Here is a link to the document. Feel free to share it with your friends :-)

Just Because

I was thinking of him!

Awkward self portraits at the top of a mountain by our house:

Some silly photos form our engagement session:

The forgotten "child"

Our poor dog (Tipsy) use to be the center of our attention. She was well cared for and played with daily.

Now.. not so much :-P She gets Sammy's attention.. which in all honesty she doesn't usually like (well unless it involves food).
She still gets fed (because she reminds us), she gets bathed when she stinks (which I think she likes better), and she gets played with (Sammy chases her around the house). She still has a special spot in our hearts but she is a little lower on the totem pole.

Some of Tipsy's not so nice qualities:
-she eats diapers from the trash...
-lets not dwell on that to long.. she barks when someone pulls in the driveway
-she sheds a TON
Some of her redeeming qualities:
-She takes cares for Sammy
-She smiles for the camera.. don't believe me:

-She sleeps in the funnies positions:

-she tolerates all of the silly things I do to her (yes that's one of Sammy's bonnets on her head):

-She cleans up Sammy's crumbs :-)
-She is a very low maintenance dog:

So do you have any forgotten children? Any pets that have taken a little more of a backseat after having kids?

Baby Shower

I had the pleasure if throwing a shower for my big sis on Saturday with some of her wonderful friends. We kept it pretty low key and had a great group of ladies out to celebrate with Clare and baby Ellie she is caring around :-)

We didn't play any shower games but instead we chatted and embroidered some little onesies for baby Ellie! My Mom made some super cute roses on the top of one of them. I made a valiant effort and made a letter E.

We had and ate a ton of snacks and then opened presents. Clare had most of the things she needed so we worked on "stuffing the hamper." Clare got some really beautiful outfits and some really cute ones as well!

Here I am with my sis :-) Love her!

Then a picture of the us with our Mom :-)
I was the photographer during the present opening so I am sure Clare will be posting more pictures soon!

Tot School - Letter I

Tot School
Sammy is 33 months

Sammy wasn't to excited for learning activities this week. So I keep things low key and let him pick out what he wanted to do.

Letter I:

We talked about icicles and made an I with icicles on it.

Sammy also got to play with one we had hanging from the gutter. He of course thought it was pretty taste (however, probably not very clean). I had a bunch of blurry pictures this week.. not sure whats up with that!

We made an igloo I also. I cut long strips for Sammy and he cut some of them into small pieces. I helped him with this since we needed so many. We also worked together to clue them onto the I.

My friend Katie and I took the kids to the children museum this week. I didn't get a ton of pictures because there were tons of kids there. But they had fun pulling the shapes off the velcro wall:
We did a few inchworm activities from Confessions of a Homeschooler's preK letter I

Sammy has been really into clothespins lately. So we pinned a few onto a paper plate (yes its a Christmas plate)

Potat Soup Recipe

My lovely friend Katie is letting me share her potato soup recipe with you guys! It was delicious and I have tons of leftovers :-) If your just making this recipe for your family you will probably want to half it.

Hallelujah Soup

1 lb bacon - I used turkey bacon and it turned out great
4 chopped onions - I used 2 onions and I them in the Cuisinart so they were finely chopped
8 sliced potatoes - these are big russet potatoes
10c chicken broth (I used chicken bouillon and water)
6 c. hot water
2/3 c cold water
4 Tbs flour
2 tsp salt
6 Tbs sugar
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp sage

1. In a big (huge) stock pot fry the bacon.
2. Then add the potatoes, onion, chicken stock, and hot water.
3. Bring to a boil for about 30 minutes (or until the potatoes are tender)
4. In a small bowl mix together the cold water, flour, salt, sugar, pepper and sage. Mix until mostly smooth. Add a cup of boiling broth and stir until smooth.
5. Add the flour mixture into the pot of soup. Stir until blended.

If you like your soup to be less chunky you can take a masher to the potatoes and mash them up some. I left mine chunky and it were really good as well :-)

Thursday Tidbits

I always seem to run out of things to write about. Yet I always have little thoughts running through my head. So here are a few:

-The Olympics have been great!! But man its killing me going so late!
-On Monday I purged 4 closets and the cabinets in the laundry room. I'm telling myself its spring cleaning in hopes spring comes soon!
-I have a really busy weekend but I'm super excited about it!
-I am making super yummy potato soup for my bible study tonight. My friend Katie gave me the recipe! I can't wait to make it :-)
-I won the book Watch Over Me over at my friend's blog No Ordinary Moments. I read the first chapter while I was waiting for the bank to open this morning and I'm hooked! Thanks Jolanthe!
-Sammy loves Curious George.. and wants to watch it every time he gets to watch a movie! Are there any other George movies besides the story of how George came to America?
-I need to do some shopping for some parties this weekend and I can't wait! Target and Micheal's here I come :-)

So there you have it.. some of the things in my head :-)

Nana turns 89

My Grandmother turned 89 so on Valentine's day we celebrated! My grandmother lives in a beautiful assisted living home. We used a few of the rooms and had a nice family get together.

Sammy loved playing with his cousin Bradley and visiting with all of his relatives. Lets also be honest he was glad to get out of the house too ;-)

Here he is posing with my Mom (Gigi). What a sweet picture:

Here is the birthday girl herself! Doesn't my sister look so beautiful pregnant! Can't wait to meet baby girl Ella :-)
My Dad (Pop Pop) was brave enough to sit on the floor and play with the rambunctious boys! Who mind you did awesome considering it was nap time!

Uncle Chris got in on the wrestling too:
Sammy is really into tickling. Here is tickling his Pop Pop with a huge smile on his face:
He snuck up on Gigi to give her some tickles too! Here is saying whew like I barely made it away when she started tickling back:

Gigi, Bradley, Pop Pop and Sammy posing for a nice picture. My sister's turned out better but still a nice shot :-)

We also celebrated my Great Aunt Lydia's 93rd birthday a month early! There she is on the sofa (on the far right)!

I stole this picture from my sister (thanks Clare). I was there too:
Somehow I ended up with no pictures of Tim from the day! He was there too! Sammy and him had a super fun (read loud) game of cars going in the kitchen with Uncle Chris :-)

Housebound = Swimming

So last week we got pretty desperate looking for things to do around the house. A lot of things were closed due to the weather so we had to get pretty creative! My sister got Sammy this super cute shark towel for Christmas:

Sammy has been obsessed with sharks ever since!

So on Thursday I made a HUGE fort:
That lasted about 5 minutes I was out of ideas! Sammy asked to watch sharks on the computer again. Youtube was my savor. Then a brilliant idea hit! I said, "Hey Sammy do you want to go swimming like a shark?" Sammy got super excited!

So off we went to find Sammy's bathing suit and sun hat! I filled the tub really full (usually for a bath we only put a few inches into the tub).

So that's what we did sweet shark Sammy and I!

Anyone else have any creative indoor activities? I would love to hear them!
