Sloppy Joe Recipe

This is my Mom’s super easy sloppy joe recipe that is just perfect for a football weekend.  We are die hard Redskins fans here.  However, we still always watch the super bowl.  With that coming up next weekend I thought I would share it with you guys!

2 lbs ground beef
1 small onion
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1 bottle of chili sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 Tbs. Worcester Sauce
salt and pepper to taste
hamburger buns

1. Brown the hamburger, add in the onion and green pepper cook until tender
2. Put everything in the crockpot on low for a few hours (just so the flavors all mix together)
3. Serve on hamburger buns

Sammy’s Point of View

The other day Sammy found my camera on the kitchen table and took a few pictures while eating his lunch.  Tim caught him in the act of taking pictures but he was still able to snap a few:

I am not sure what the first one is a picture of but they all crack me up!  The last one is a game box that he got to make at lowes with Daddy!

Craft Inspiration

So I haven’t been making much lately.  I am back on a reading kick.. its like I can’t do a little of both I am all one thing or all the other!  However, I now have some crafting inspirations and a few birthdays coming up that I want to create things for!

I want to make a “pillow” case dress for Ellie for her birthday so I went to the store to look at some fabric and fell in love with this:

I know you all are envious of my orange sewing machine.. It’s retro Winking smile and a super amazing sewing machine!  Thanks Mom!!

Next up is I want to get around to actually making a crayon roll up for Sammy like I made for some  Bradley’s birthday and a few others.  I already have the fabric I just need to make the time to sit down and do it!

Next up is a scarf I started with out a pattern.. We will see how it turns out.  It is cable knit and will be a gift but probably not until Christmas!

Now to actually get some crafting done.. that is my goal between the next time Clare does a Naptime is Craftime post.  My other goal is come up with an idea for my mom for her birthday.  If she is reading this send suggestions Smile

A Little Bit of Random

  • I seemed to have caught another cold – a nasty one down in my chest – not fun but slowly feeling better each day.
  • I am going on a 1 day trip with Sammy on Friday!  Super excited to see my friend Katie and her cuties!  Then off to see my friend Steph and spend the night!! yay!
  • Tim is playing in a concert on Saturday and has been practicing like crazy.164578_1852470270265_1196037832_2257346_6512936_n
  • Pre-Sammy – Tim had a bedroom as a music “studio” now he gets to practice on our bedroom floor next to my sewing station. (sorry for the crummy picture – bad lighting and it was taken with my cell phone)
  • I am starting to think about plans for Sammy’s birthday.  I am not sure what kind of theme we are going to do.  He is into so many different things right now!
  • I love watching Sammy “read” his books!
  • I use to hate valentine’s day.. now I am kinda looking forward to February!
  • Do you ever feel like you can’t get everything to fall into place? Like things should be going back to normal after the holidays but they just haven’t seemed to fall into place!
  • I just finished reading the Narnia series and loved it!
  • I started reading a review book – it will be my first review ever and I am loving the book!
  • I haven’t been crafting much lately but I need to get started on some of my projects!
  • Is it weird I am still drinking pumpkin spice coffee?
  • I have tons of other things floating around in my head but I wont bore you will all them Winking smile

Tiny Talk Tuesday–Chinchillas

Last week I lost my voice from a cold.  I could barely whisper.  This made parenting very difficult!  At lunch time I asked Sammy, “What do you want for lunch?”  Sammy (age 3) whispered back, “peanut  butter and jelly.'”

Mommy: I love you Sammy!

Sammy: I love you too Mommy Chinchilla!

Sammy: I want to eat chinchilla sandwich. {pause}

everyone erupts in laughter

What I Learned this Week

My friend Terra over at Sitting on an Oak is doing a blog hop called What I Learned this Week.  Basically you write a post about what you learned this week and link up.  The post can be about anything you learned this week.  So without further ado I will tell you guys what I learned this week!

  1. I learned that if your three year old add the word chinchilla after everything its hilarious.  Well at least the first 100 times.
  2. I learned that foam swords are a lot of fun to use to knock suction cup darts off of things.
  3. I learned that we will need to get a new dryer sooner rather than later!

What did you learn this week?

Preschool Corner–Snow/ Winter Theme

Well we got  a few things done last week even though Sammy was sick with a cold and shared it with the family!  Here are a few things I got pictures off and yes he is wearing his jammies in all of them!

Counting out snowflakes to put on the snow scene I drew up:

I just drew the snowman with some white chalk and markers.  I then created counting cards from 0-15.  Sammy can count to 12 so this helped him practice all the way to 12 and get a little more familiar with the next few numbers:

We played a few rounds of Don’t Break the Ice:

We read How to Build A Snowman in Sammy’s tent:

Then we made a snowman with cotton balls:  Sammy drew the hat onto the top and I did the face features since it was hard to do on the cotton balls.  Sammy added the snowflakes from ripped up cotton balls I love them!

We put a mitten on one hand and left the other one bare.  We then help ice cubes and talked about which hand was colder and which ice cube melted faster.  This didn’t last real long since Sammy’s hand got cold and he went and got his other mitten so he could play with the ice Smile with tongue out

We used watercolors to paint paper towels.  I saw the idea here.  I used white crayons to make some snowflakes and and a snowman.  (Excuse Sammy’s breakfast bowl in the background I hadn’t cleaned up breakfast yet):

We read all of our winter stories in Sammy’s tent:

We also played in our sensory bin:

-cotton balls

-home made “snowballs” (yarn pom poms)

-pipe cleaner snowflakes

-popsicle eraser

-fake snow flakes

-blue and white sparkly pom poms

Here are some of the books we read to go along with the theme:

We will be doing a winter/snow theme this whole month so there will be more ideas coming up next week!

Simple Woman’s Daybook

FOR TODAY: 1/11/11
Outside my window... Some snow just started to fall in big huge flakes! I am thinking... the grocery store might just wait until another day! I am thankful for... a warm house and soft tissues (I am onto that phase of the cold) From the learning rooms... We will continue to work on our winter theme.  Sammy is finally feeling better so we can get at it again! From the kitchen... Its grocery store day.. but I still have lots of food since we hardly cooked last week. I am wearing... My long underwear jammies but I need to go find some warm socks! I am creating... a list of homemade gifts for the birthday’s coming up in the next few months! I am going... to the post office and possibly the grocery store. I am reading... The Silver Chair, I hadn’t read that one yet somehow! I am hoping... for a nice big snowstorm that keeps Tim, Sammy and I home together for a day! I am hearing... the show Kipper on the TV and our neighbors diesel truck warming up. Around the house... we have been cleaning, purging and reorganizing.  I hope we can continue that from our room into some other areas of the house. One of my favorite things... baking when its snowing outside and making the house nice and toasty!

A few plans for the rest of the week:

  • organizing the toys, clothes, and craft supplies
  • celebrating my Dad’s birthday
  • playing and learning with Sammy

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

Cousins on Christmas Eve – my Dad decorated a sailboat with Christmas lights and my sister took that awesome photo!

Menu Plan Monday 1-10-11

- Mini Chicken Pot Pies – I have leftover chicken pot pie filling so I am going to use some biscuits and pull apart the layers. Put one layer down in the bottom of the muffin pan put some filling in and put a layer on top. Then bake those in the oven.

- Pizza Rice Casserole with mixed veggies – rollover from last week

- Convenient Slow-Cooker Lasagna and garlic bread – rollover from last week

- Bible study – we rotate through brining the main dish. This week I am bringing drinks

- Out to Dinner for my Dad’s birthday

-Breakfast: Bacon quiche – rollover from last week

- Dinner - Cheese tortellini – rollover from last week

Current Craftiness

So my super creative sister is hosting a little a little blog carnival called Naptime is Craftime.  She is going to do this twice a month (I think that’s what she said) and let people post some of their craft projects, to do lists, decorating ideas etc.  I love seeing what other people are doing  with their creative side.  So I am going to jump all in.

Here is what I have been working on and just finished last night:

This is a quick little scarf I made on the loom.  My biblestudy is having a White Elephant (but nice presents) exchanged tonight.  This is my gift.. shhh don’t tell!  This was suppose to happen before the holidays but we got snow and it was canceled.  I had put the project on the back burner because I was going to miss the original date.  I can’t wait to see who ends up with this!

Since I have learned how to knit I have yet to make myself a single thing.  So in my stocking I got some “thick and quick” yarn and I thought I would whip up a scarf for myself:

However, I am not loving it.. I might rip it out and try and make myself some slippers.  Thoughts?

I also wanted to share some craft goals for 2011:

1. Handmade stockings – still debating between knitted ones or hand sewn felt ones

2. A black hat for Tim to match his winter coat

3. Crayon Roll up for Sammy’s birthday

4. Wooden block puzzle for Sammy and Bradley (birthdays or Christmas)

5. Something special for my Mom for her birthday

6. Handmade ornaments for all family members (18

7. Hand knit toy – need to find a pattern for something Sammy would like

8. felt food

9. Knight Dress Up clothes – shield, sword, helmet

10. Dress for Ellie (niece) – Birthday

11. Dress for Kylee (niece) – Birthday

12. Applique birthday shirt for Sammy’s party

13. Leg Warmers for Elle for Christmas

14. Hat for Tim’s Mom

15. slippers for Sammy

16. Placemats for myself

17. Scarf for Sammy(he keeps asking me to make him one so he can be a snowman)

18. Reusable sandwich bag for packing Tim’s lunch

19. Something for Tim’s birthday but I am having hard time coming up with something to make for that.  Any suggestions?

20. Handprint calendar to give to the grandparents next year for Christmas

Okay.. that’s quite a list I need to stop before I get super crazy and think of ideas for every possible even known to man!

Be sure to check out Naptime is Craftime over at Naptime Novels.

A Little Bit of Snow

A while back we got some snow and I got Sammy all dressed to go out and enjoy and enjoy he did!  He also learned how to climb the fence… no I am not kidding:

It’s a good thing we have amazing neighbors and they have a super sweet dog!

Sammy loves to play on his swing set in the snow:

Gingerbread House and Birthday Party

A few days before Christmas Tim, Sammy and I decorated a gingerbread house and ate candy Winking smile

The supplies, we stashed some Halloween Candy to use for this project:

Sammy and I working on the house:

The finished product:

Isn’t it beautiful Winking smile

We were suppose to have a tree and Santa out front but after I glued the house together I left the box on the floor and Tipsy ate those two pieces Smile with tongue out

I wanted to finish up all of the holiday posts so I am smashing John’s birthday party into this post since I hardly got any pictures and his birthday is Christmas day!

Sammy taking presents to Uncle John to open:

We had everyone over for some lunch and  watched football since that is John’s favorite and since his Tim didn’t play until Monday night I got to watch my Redskins win.  I call that a win win in my book Smile
