Spring Reading Thing–Wrap Up

So Spring is officially over and Summer is here to stay for a while.  I wanted to post a wrap up to my Spring Reading Thing goals.  Here was my original post.  I made a small goal since life had been so crazy and because I hadn’t been reading much.  I am glad I did this because I was able to finish all of the books on my list plus another 2 books.  So onto some questions:

  • Did you finish reading all the books on your spring reading list? If not, why not?
    • Yep finished them all and a few extras!
  • Did you stick to your original goals or did you change your list as you went along?
    • I stuck to my original list.  Once that was completed I just added a book at a time!
  • What was your favorite book that you read this spring? Least favorite? Why?
    • I had a lot of books I really enjoyed on my list.  My favorite is a tie between The Hunger Games and Fall of Giants: Book One of the Century Trilogy .  They were two completely different books but I loved them both!  My least favorite was Plain Truth .  The book was okay but it wasn’t anything super special and it fell into the typical Picoult books.  It was a little predictable to me.
  • Did you discover a new author or genre this spring? Did you love them? Not love them?
    • Suzanne Collins got me hooked with hunger games.  I have now finished Catching fire and I am half way through Mocking Jay!
  • Did you learn something new because of Spring Reading Thing 2011 – something about reading, about yourself, or about a topic you read about?
    • I learned a lot about world war one while reading Fall of Giants!
  • What was your favorite thing about the challenge?
    • It helped me get back into the habit of reading and stop watching pointless TV at the end of the day Smile

To see how other’s did on the reading challenge check out callapidder days.

Simple Woman’s Daybook

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... the sun is shinning brightly.  However the temperature will only get to 78 today! I am thinking... our plans for the next week.  Tim’s brother is graduating from boot camp. I am thankful for... too many things to fit nicely in this post!  From the learning rooms... we are taking a break for summer.  Well that’s not completely true.  We will just be learning through play and daily living! From the kitchen... lots of grilling going on over here!  Tonight I have bible study and I am just bringing some fruit. I am wearing... jean capris and a t-shirt. I am creating... nothing right now.. but I need to get started on some projects! I am going... nowhere!  It has been super busy lately so I am glad have an at home day! I am reading... '>Catching Fire.  This is the second book in the Hunger games trilogy and it is so good! I am hoping... it doesn’t rain tomorrow morning so we can enjoy my sister’s pool with them. I am hearing... CD #2 of 101 bible songs.  Yes we have already listened to the first hour Smile with tongue out  Around the house... the laundry is backed up.. however the mural that was on Sammy’s wall has been scrubbed off (mostly). One of my favorite things... watching Sammy play with other children.  I am watching a friend’s baby today and Sammy is having so much fun entertaining him! A few plans for the rest of the week: off to the pool tomorrow.  Then a day with Tim on Saturday.  Followed by a day at the lake for Father’s Day! Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

Church Retreat

Our church is the first of 5 churches (and hopefully many more).  We had the pleasure of going to the retreat to learn and fellowship.  Tim played with the band for the retreat and helped to run sound.

This was before the first band played and things were completely crazy with the sound.. somehow he doesn’t look to frazzled:

Safari Park

A good friend of mine invited us to join them on a trip to the safari park. It’s a quick trip down the interstate from our house and was a total blast.  We rode together which made the trip much more fun.  Sammy enjoyed the company and we all had fun feeding the animals from the car.  Here are a few shots I was able to snag!

Claire and was brave feeding this guy:

Sammy is a true animal lover and loves to feed them all!  He fed the goats all by himself this time and loved every finger nibble and lick he received:

The safari park also has a small zoo of animals.  Lots of birds, kangaroos, tigers, monkeys, reptiles, etc:

There was TONS of kids there.  I wanted to take one home so we wouldn’t have to cut the grass:

We drove through again without any food and just tried to pet some of the animals and I was able to get more pictures since they weren’t trying to rip the buckets of feed out of my hand!
