Pool and Putt Putt

Sammy’s favorite part of the beach trip was most certainly the pool!  He asked to go there much more frequently than the pool!  We had amazing weather and swam in the pool everyday for several hours.  Sammy is getting super super close to swimming completely on his own.  I attribute that to lots of swimming and a pair of goggles he loves!

Sammy use to jump off the side but only if you would catch him.  However, after this trip he is now a jumping machine!

I let him jump over me and he thought this was the coolest thing ever:

We also jumped in together:

Putt Putt is a yearly tradition and we have yet to play the same course down there.  This was a pirate putt putt course and Sammy thought that was super cool.  Pop Pop he said next time you go to the beach you need to play the putt putt course:

He is even winking one eye to look like a pirate that lost his eye:

DSC_0293 DSC_0295  His form improved a little from last year.  He however, shows now hand preference when  playing golf.  One stroke he is a right the next he is a lefty:DSC_0301 Tim’s form must have improved as well since we tied for the first time ever!

That was what Sammy use to call sunscreen!  I loved the expression and was kinda sad to see it go!  I only took my camera down to the beach one day and only took a couple of pictures.  This was how you could find Sammy pretty much anytime we were at the beach, digging:
I somehow managed not to take any of Sammy’s swim shirts with us.  I did remember his hat though.. this poor boy gets sun burnt through his hair:
I love this picture I just wish he wasn’t blinking in it:
Everyday at the beach Tim would dig a big hole until it filled in with water from the bottom.  Sammy would play in that thing for most of the time.  Here he is getting started:
Still digging… and Sammy helping off and on:
On this day we sat a little further back so he had to dig pretty deep:

I always love our trip to the beach! It isn’t crowded and the temperature is cooler and best of all we get to spend time just the 3 of us!  Love that part!

Go Fly a Kite

I surprising didn’t take tons of pictures during our beach vacation.  I tried to live in the moment and not live behind the lense the whole time!  That said I did take a few!

Like Sammy showing me his popsicle tongue:

We had a blast flying our cars box kite.  The kite was so big we didn’t let Sammy hold it to much on his own but he still had fun:

Nothing cuter than a boy and his Daddy flying a kite:

This kite is HUGE so you can only imagine how high up it was in this picture:

Sadly I never did an official photo shoot!  However, I did catch a few cute pictures of Sammy down by the water when he was done flying his kite:

Menu Plan Monday 10-24-12

I have been doing a TERRIBLE job at cooking dinner lately.  I have tried to get my act together a few times at home and still no luck.  So I am trying public accountability ;-)

  • Frozen Pizza – I am going to run errands after work today and then to the grocery store.  So I needed something quick for dinner tonight!

  • Sammy and I are going to the National Zoo this day.  I am not sure what time we will be back.

  • Chili – I am making dinner for two different people on bed rest.  So I am making a huge batch of chili.  Then I hope to make some cornbread and some sort of dessert.  But we will see if that all happens or not!

  • Egg and cheese biscuits

  • Out of town wedding – With an overnight date night!  I am excited to get a way for an extended date night!

First week of School

So this post is way late!  You can see we started school on August 21st but it is better late than never!

Our Calendar space all setup:

The first thing we do each day is put the day into the calendar, talk about the day of the week and the weather.

DSC_0219 Next up Sammy works on his calendar notebook.  We use a combination of Homeschool Creations pages and 1+1+1=1.   Here is a few things that I got pictures of.  Working on his daily drawing:

Coloring in the day on his 100s chart:

We did lesson 1 in math.  He placed his blocks on top of the cubes and counted them:

We did two lessons in All About Reading.  Here he was reading the words and putting the ice cream cone word families together:

Next we played a game to review the letter sounds.  We played with our reading buddy Ziggy:

Sammy thought Ziggy was hilarious when he messed up.  For those that don’t know Ziggy is a zebra puppet.  So I would make him mess up and Sammy did this:

Reading bone cards and feeding them to a monster.  Yes he was in his jammies :-)

Working in his explode the code book 1:

Writing numbers:

Stamping the Rs on his robot print out.  This is a total review but Sammy loves doing this stuff and we had a loose robot theme for the week:

In Mystery of History we read the creation lesson.  Then our add on lesson was to try and create an animal completely different than anything else.  Sammy though this was hard.  He kept trying to make an elephant and other things that already exist.  But we eventually got it down!

DSC_0247 This is our bee-a-bop.  It has a very long tail, a weird head (Sammy’s description), 6 legs, and 3 sections that make up its body:

In science club we collected leaves and talked about their different parts:

First Day of School Fun!

I have a post going up tomorrow about our first week of school.  We started in August and we had a pretty fun first day of school.  First we started with donuts then presents!  Sammy got some pretty cool dinosaur erasers and some new pencils.  He was super excited about his fun new school supplies:

Sammy created a self-portrait.  I want to do this every year to see how much he changes over the years.  Here is his self-portrait from this year:

After school we went to a pizza buffet with our good buddies:

Not the greatest picture of either of them.  But here are the two Kindergarteners :-)

After lunch we went to a local playground and played for a long time.  The kids even found a caterpillar that just went into its chrysalis!

After that we went home for a little while until Tim got home from work.  Then we went out for a special first day of school dinner at the “Yeehaw Store” (what Sammy calls Texas Roadhouse).  Followed by ice cream where Sammy was brave and tried strawberry ice cream (instead of vanilla) and loved it!

It was a great start to our first year of homeschooling.  Now that we are 4 weeks in I am loving it and so is Sammy!
