Beach Week–Family Style- Part 3

Like I said, I didn’t take many pictures at the beach this year.  I did take my phone down to the beach more than I usually do.  So here are the last of the vacation pictures (until next year *winks*).

Our annual stop at Cracker Barrel on the way to the beach:

Sammy took his keens off after stopping for breakfast and it took me several miles to figure out what the awful smell was and where it was coming from.  The keens were promptly washed after our trip! Sammy thought it was hilarious that his shoes/feet stunk:

1,000+ Thankful List–Tooth Extraction, Broken Water line, and Elk Antlers

I fell off of the wagon on writing my 1,000+ thankful list.  I have want to get back on the wagon but I hadn’t done it yet.  Then I saw Aurie’s Count Our Blessings link up I knew this was just the motivation I needed!

I am going to start where I left off in March of this year and add to this regularly!

101. We are so thankful to our families that have lent us their vehicles over the past few weeks while one of ours was in the shop getting a refurbished speed module.

102. Sammy has been taking off with his skip counting and memory verses!  Something clicked for him to be able to store that kind of information and then recall it later!

103. Elk antlers that keep our dogs very busy and happily chewing on things they are suppose to!

104. On that note I am also thankful that for puppies that haven’t made to many chewing mistakes.  They have made a few with small toys like legos and nerf darts but nothing major like walls, furniture, carpet, etc! They are even learning not to chew on the legos and things like that!

105. I am loving the cooler temperatures and not having to run the AC or the heat!

106.  I had the pleasure of skyping with my best friend in London!  I love technology and I am thankful to be able to use that to communicate and stay connected with her while she is gone for 4 months (3 more to go)!

107.  My parents just went on an amazing trip to Yellowstone national park.  They brought home some super fun souvenirs for Sammy.  I am thankful that they had such an amazing trip and I got to experience some of it through their amazing pictures!!  I would love to go visit there one day!

2013-09-21 18.23.48

108. So very grateful for Husbands that are handy and can fix a broken waterline.  I am also very thankful that it was in the crawl space and didn’t damage anything in the house while we were on vacation!

109. I am thankful for a dentist that charged us the least amount possible for a tooth extraction!

2013-09-25 17.30.10

110. I am thankful for a wonderful co-op for Sammy to learn and grow! I look forward to seeing how much Sammy grows and matures this year thanks to it!

Beach Week–Family Style–Part 2

The beach is a nice time for me to reflect over the year.  I like to think about what we have accomplished, what our goals are for this next year, and what we can improve on.

I love to look back of our photo shoots from previous years and see how much Sammy has changed and grown!

I love the boy that Sammy is growing into more and more each day.  I love seeing the bond between Tim and Sammy grow as well!  Sammy loves his Daddy and looks up to him!  Sammy also thinks a lot like Tim and I love fostering that!

Sammy has a piece of my heart with him forever!  His smile melts my heart and his personality keeps me laughing!

Beach Week–Family Style–Part 1

We had an amazing trip to the beach at the beginning of the month.  The weather was perfect and the location is always amazing.  This was our 7th year going to North Myrtle Beach and staying in my parents condo.  Sammy loves the sand, ocean, and pool a little more each year!!

Sammy soaking in the sounds and smells of the ocean on the first morning while playing his 3DS:

Just looking at this picture relaxes me:

This year we were much wiser when packing.  We cut down on the number of sand toys we took with us.  We added a full size shovel so that Tim could dig a really deep hole that would fill in with water naturally!  This made for a happy and sandy boy.

Sammy playing in the hole:

One of my favorite parts about our trip each year is that it is off season.  We might be the only ones on the beach some days!  That speck close to the water is Sammy going to fill up his bucket of water to work on a sandcastle.

Our finished product this year:

We were blessed to have some flat visitors on our trip.  My best friend Katie is currently in London for the fall semester and we have a flat version of her and the kiddos.  We took them out to the beach and lined them up in the sand:

We continued our yearly tradition of kite flying.  The first few days at the beach were pretty windy so we had no problem flying our kite way up high:

Sammy enjoyed this but I think he wants to try some of the cool stunt kites we saw this year!

One of Sammy’s favorite activities this year was drawing pictures in the sand:

This year we noticed more tide pools than normal.  Sammy loved to engineer ways to drain one tide pool into another  and how to get them to be filled in by the ocean.  One day in the tide pool we saw a large crab.  We used our shovel some to make him walk so Sammy could see him walk sideways.  Then we left him to his own tide pool *winks*

I didn’t take as many pictures this year while at the beach.  I really enjoyed relaxing and just being there with my family!  I will share a few of the activities we did get to and our annual photo shoot!

The only thing I am bummed I didn’t get a picture of was on our last day at the beach we saw a pod of dolphins swimming up the coast.  A couple of them were jumping way out of the water and splashing on their backs.  Sammy thought this was the most amazing thing ever!

Week 4 and 5

Sammy is working his way through the Explode the Code book 2.5.  Since he does a full page of handwriting right now I don’t always make him write everything out and this allows us to focus on the phonics review:

Math facts are not coming easy for us over here.  So I am doing what our math manual says and doing some flashcard reviews each day.  We now have the +0 and +1s memorized *winks*.  We are working on the +2s.

Sammy doesn’t mind the flash cards when he can stand on the sofa arm to review them:

Working on his handwriting page.. he likes to lean against the chair most days:

Next up was some All About Spelling on the white board:

The next day Sammy took his first spelling “test” and got a 100!

We played a close game of war with some Cars cards:

We did an ocean chalk pastel and Sammy loved adding sea creatures to his project.  It was also raining in his picture (at the top):

Another day we started on our Home Art Studio lessons with a 3D paper roller coaster.  Sammy LOVED this project and worked on it for over an hour! He cut out all of the strips of paper (we drew lines on ours to help keep them straight) and then he drew tracks onto his papers:

The Dino Express was complete:

Sammy’s favorite Nancy Larson Science lesson happened during our 5th week of school.  We did a taste experiment that Sammy loved.  We test out the fact that you can only taste sweet, salty, sour and bitter.  Everything else comes from your sense of smell.

Sammy examining the Saltine crackers (one was salted the other was unsalted):

Tasting sour (a lemon):

Tasting sweet (an orange):

Tasting bitter (un sweetened chocolate.. he spit right after this picture):

Tasting sweet again (sweetened chocolate.. here is where I thought the experiment would back fire.. Sammy doesn’t like chocolate.. but tasting it he found out he kinda likes it a little bit and proceeded to eat his whole square of chocolate and he even ate a small piece another day):

We read a book about our sense of taste:

Working on his Horizons math page on the greater than or less problems.  He is flying through these now with the different games we have played with them!!

In our Exploration Education we talked about energy.  We talked about how moving things use energy and some require more than others.  We pushed our car across the carpet with one finger:

Then we attempted to move a chair across the carpet with one finger:

Last but not least we worked on our chalk pastels of the beach (right before we left for the beach).  Here is my finished project:

Here is Sammy’s finished project:
